Week Ending 3/11/2017

This week has been a crazy week! I went out of town on Monday to be with my mom while she had a minor procedure on Tuesday. I thought it would be a great opportunity to spend some time with her. When she comes here or we go there we just seem to miss the chance to have time alone.  I wrote detailed lists of what needed to be done for school while I was gone as well as appointments and classes. I came home on Friday to find most of that not done!  When I questioned my husband he informed me it had been a BUSY week!! I laughed and told him welcome to my world:)

Issac ended up with an ear infection and had to go to the doctor, so he didn't quite feel up to doing any work the first two days I was gone. The kids got some work done, but of course not what I would have liked :) I've learned and try to remind myself that's just the way it is some weeks.

We have lots going on this week, so I'm not sure there will be much catching up :( I've got two reviews I'm working on for this week.  One is from Home School Adventure Co. and the other from Susan K. Marlow-The Circle C Stepping Stones books.  Super excited to get these done and posted. The kids have their 4-H Achieve Banquet tomorrow evening. Brianna is suppose to go volunteer in the morning, but we also need to help set the tables for the banquet.  There is also the usual Gavel Club and karate and hopefully nothing else this week :)

I'm in the middle of a PILE of books that I'm working through.  Just received Cimarron Creek Trilogy A Stolen Heart in the mail yesterday to read and review. Can't wait to get started on that book :) I'm also currently reading: Reflections of a Warrior that the kid's sensei lent me.  My mom sent me home with Everybody's Got Something. I had started Right-Brained Children in a Left-Brained World from the library last week. Issac and I are also working through Shepherd, Potter, Spy and the Star Namer which is a book we are currently reviewing.  So many books and not enough time :)

We woke up this morning to a small sprinkling of snow. I would have LOVED more, but just seeing a little still makes my heart warm. I love the snow and every year I'm disappointed that we don't get more. Today Issac told me there wasn't enough to play. I told him that sometimes happen and we need to just enjoy the beauty of what we have. Those words could extend to so many other parts of life, but we'll leave that for another day :)

Review: Forbrain

Issac is 10 years old and has struggled most of his life with speech delays.  He's been though to have auditory processing  as well as we've had reading difficulties. The older he's gotten we've seen more and more memory issues as well as him having trouble paying attention.  We've done speech and occupational therapies off and on for most of his life.  I recently saw Forbrain by Sound for Life LTD and was really interested in this for Issac. The website states that Forbrain's dynamic filter trains the brain to be more attentive improving not only attention but auditory processing and sensory integration.  Forbrain helps people to improve speech fluency, pronunciation, sound discrimination and rhythm, for clearer and more effective communication.Forbrain helps people to improve short term memory, which impacts such skills as reading, writing and even chatting.  These are all things that I thought were right inline with Issac.  Depending on the age of the person…

Review: CTCMath

When your a homeschooling parent the topic of which curriculum to use comes up quite often. The subject that I've heard discussed the most is math.  One of the names I've heard over and over again is CTCMath.  We were given a Single Membership and they are offering you the chance to try it for free!  CTCMath is wonderful for children that don't fit 100% into a specific grade level.  When you use the program you have access to ALL levels and not just the grade that your child is in.  Issac is in 5th grade and for several years he was actually ahead in math. It was one of the subjects that he really enjoyed. He excelled in it for several years until multiplication and division came into play.  He struggled, so I worked him around those problems while we tried to memorize our facts.  This went on longer than I had hoped and eventually we started getting behind.  Last year we tried a few things that were new to us and they seemed to help him get most of the multiplication fac…

Busy Hands Make a Sleepy Mama!

I have been having trouble sleeping well this week and it's been so very frustrating. What I really struggle to understand is how when I'm restless the nightmares seem to appear. That then makes my sleep worse and it's a vicious cycle! This morning I decided that we needed some muffins to snack on this week and I had varied frozen fruit in the freezer that I wanted to use up. We will be moving soon and while I don't want my extra freezer empty there are some things that could be used up to make the packing go much smoother :) I found a bag of craisins in the freezer and decided to use those for muffins. For the life of me I have NO idea why I have a LARGE bag of craisins in the freezer (LOL) I hit Pinterest looking for some recipes and found one that looked good.  Found this recipe for Cranberry Blueberry Muffins that looked good, so we went with it. I decided to do 2 batches with just the craisins, did 2 batches with just the blueberries and then used the same recipe …
