Week Ending 7/1/17

This week has been a very laid back week!  Issac was gone to my mom's house this week, so it was mostly Brianna and I home during the day. She had gotten her wisdom teeth removed last Thursday, so for several days she didn't feel like doing anything.  We watched the movie Trust Fund together, so keep an eye out for a review coming up soon :) I did do the kids attendance records for the year, so that's one thing I've done to finalize her year (LOL)  I really love reading Amish fiction type books and this week I read the following books:

Right Brained Children in a Left Brained World (Have been working on this for a few months, but finally finished it :) )

Lydia's Charm

Summer of Secrets

Breaking up with Barrett

The Proposal at Siesta Key

Brianna and I drove to Statesville this morning to meet my mom and pick up Issac.  I let Brianna drive from Sanford to Greensboro and then from Greensboro back to Sanford to get some driving time in.  I can definitely see where she has improved in her driving.  We came home and I binge watched House Hunters International and took a nap.  I didn't accomplish much this week, but it was an enjoyable one!

  1. I hope Issac enjoyed the rest of his trip. I can't believe Brianna is driving already! I've known this for awhile, but every time I see something about it I am shocked all over again (ha). I am so behind on my reading... I seriously can't recall the last book I read just for me. Things have been so crazy here that when I do have time to read I don't feel like it.

    1. Before you know it you'll have a driver! :) I am afraid I have yelled more at her than Zachary, but I feel like she doesn't always take what I'm telling her and retain it :( She's gotten much better though with the practice! I know you love to read, so your going to have to find some time!

    2. I am not ready to have a driver... Scary! (ha) I am glad she is getting better at driving with practice. I do love to read, and I have spent the last 3.5 days doing nothing but that! It has been so nice catching up on it!

Review: Forbrain

Issac is 10 years old and has struggled most of his life with speech delays.  He's been though to have auditory processing  as well as we've had reading difficulties. The older he's gotten we've seen more and more memory issues as well as him having trouble paying attention.  We've done speech and occupational therapies off and on for most of his life.  I recently saw Forbrain by Sound for Life LTD and was really interested in this for Issac. The website states that Forbrain's dynamic filter trains the brain to be more attentive improving not only attention but auditory processing and sensory integration.  Forbrain helps people to improve speech fluency, pronunciation, sound discrimination and rhythm, for clearer and more effective communication.Forbrain helps people to improve short term memory, which impacts such skills as reading, writing and even chatting.  These are all things that I thought were right inline with Issac.  Depending on the age of the person…

Review: CTCMath

When your a homeschooling parent the topic of which curriculum to use comes up quite often. The subject that I've heard discussed the most is math.  One of the names I've heard over and over again is CTCMath.  We were given a Single Membership and they are offering you the chance to try it for free!  CTCMath is wonderful for children that don't fit 100% into a specific grade level.  When you use the program you have access to ALL levels and not just the grade that your child is in.  Issac is in 5th grade and for several years he was actually ahead in math. It was one of the subjects that he really enjoyed. He excelled in it for several years until multiplication and division came into play.  He struggled, so I worked him around those problems while we tried to memorize our facts.  This went on longer than I had hoped and eventually we started getting behind.  Last year we tried a few things that were new to us and they seemed to help him get most of the multiplication fac…

Busy Hands Make a Sleepy Mama!

I have been having trouble sleeping well this week and it's been so very frustrating. What I really struggle to understand is how when I'm restless the nightmares seem to appear. That then makes my sleep worse and it's a vicious cycle! This morning I decided that we needed some muffins to snack on this week and I had varied frozen fruit in the freezer that I wanted to use up. We will be moving soon and while I don't want my extra freezer empty there are some things that could be used up to make the packing go much smoother :) I found a bag of craisins in the freezer and decided to use those for muffins. For the life of me I have NO idea why I have a LARGE bag of craisins in the freezer (LOL) I hit Pinterest looking for some recipes and found one that looked good.  Found this recipe for Cranberry Blueberry Muffins that looked good, so we went with it. I decided to do 2 batches with just the craisins, did 2 batches with just the blueberries and then used the same recipe …
